"EVE TAKING A NUDE" A watercolor series challenging the confining boundaries of sexual normalcy and celebrating the multi-faceted beauty of the human body.

From the artist:

The name of the series is “Eve Taking A Nude.” I started this watercolour series of womxn taking nudes because I wanted to challenge some narratives and celebrate our varied, multi-faceted, vibrant beauty. The time has come to puncture this concept/socio-cultural myth of Eve as a warped temptress - what if we think of her as a curious, confident individual instead, surrounded by beauty and self-awareness? The time has also come to stop “slut-shaming” nudes (I hate the term “slut”) and to stop thinking that we only take them in desperation for sexual validation from others. What if we want to take photos/paint images of our bodies and our beauty for ourselves, reveling in the intricacies of our unique traits on our own? I also grew up in the beautiful nature-scape of Dublin and love admiring flowers on my walks - this has been even more important to me during the COVID crisis. I really want to encourage viewers to see walks as opportunities for slow, natural beauty as well as just for exercise. There is so much beauty all the time everywhere around us. Life is not a series of achievements - it’s a light/shadow painting of beauty. Let’s appreciate our mother-nature and move away from that male gaze - viva la womxn gaze and appreciating our beauty on our own!

About the artist:

Her name is Blanca Schofield Legorburo and she uses she/her pronouns. She is a Spanish and Irish painter who specializes in watercolor nudes, much like the series shown above. The “Eve Taking A Nude” series stems from Blanca’s passion for intersectional feminism and fighting for a better and kinder world for all. Other than producing her beautiful artwork, she loves reading, music, and swimming in the ocean. Her favorite book at the moment is Girl, Woman, Other by Bernadine Evarsito. On the music front, she’s been listening to a lot of Rosalía lately. Since she mentioned her love for admiring flowers, we thought it would be appropriate to add that her favorite flowers are daisies and sunflowers. Blanca Schofield Legorburo’s work is extremely important in today’s social climate. It is easy to get caught up in comparing ourselves to others, especially on Instagram, when we should be celebrating our body’s unique beauty. Her series hopes to spread a message of body positivity and reduce the stigma behind appreciating our beauty independently or collectively, be it through the taking of nudes or painting or simply being at peace with ourselves.
