Artists and bands whose creativity knows no bounds

Keeping with this issue’s theme, creativity unleashed, these songs are just a small sample of the variation these artists are capable of. What makes a band last more than 2 albums? What breeds innovation? Variety.

Cage the Elephant formed in Bowling Green, KY in 2006 and since then have tried their hand at every genre out there with equally outrageous music videos.

-Ainʻt No Rest for the Wicked- storybook garage rock

-Cigarette Daydreams

-Skin and Bones- Synth driven glam rock

-Too Late To Say Goodbye

-Mess Around

The 1975 formed in 2002 and evolves their sound with each album. Their fourth album, Notes on a Conditional Form, is the epitome of experimentation. This album has elements of country, synth-pop, punk, and anything else you can imagine.

-Heart Out

-Give Yourself A Try

-People- Punk garage rock with predominant vocals.

-I like it when you sleep, for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it- A symphonic melody dripped in synth notes and strangely patterned beats.

-Roadkill

Dan Auerbach is an American singer/songwriter and co-founder of the Black Keys and founder of the Arcs. On top of his two bands, he has a solo career. Through these three projects, he has challenged the bounds of traditional alternative rock, blues rock, and folk-rock.

-Cellophane Angel- this sweet tune pulls one through the old streets of New Orleans on a gorgeous summer day sipping frosty iced tea. The subtle cooing of trumpets dance off the lyrics blending together and creating an ageless track.

-Heartbroken, in Disrepair

-Put a Flower in Your Pocket (The Arcs)

-Weight of Love (The Black Keys)- This power ballad sings not only of a love lost but warns of the stronghold love can have over a person. The heavy topic is matched and heightened with its wonderful guitar solos and delicious riffs and mellowed with periods of strange melodic tones with sporadic notes.

-The Lengths (The Black Keys)

The Growlers. Wow. Talk about evolution, the Growlers have been to the depths of the sea and back. The bandʻs first three albums are a much more classic take on the surf-rock revival of today. The next four albums flow through 70ʻs funk, pop, alternative rock, and continue their contributions to the revival of surf-rock.

-Sea Lion Goth Blues

-Wet Dreams- outlaw country ballad with a consistent timing beat similar to that of hooves trotting across a desert

-Rare Hearts

-Dope on a Rope- Surf rock beats with a nostalgic tone reminiscent of an 80s disco

-Orgasm of Death

As the saying goes, “A jack of all trades is a master of none but, oftentimes better than a master of one”.
