At Home with TOKYOʻS REVENGE

Self-taught and genre-fluid, TOKYOʻS REVENGE began freestyling in high school while perfecting his video game skills. The 20-year-old artist signed to Interscope Records earlier this year. His breakout single, GOODMORNINGTOKYO, peaked at #1 on Spotifyʻs Global Viral 50 and more than 129 million streams (as of 9/25/20). If you are unfamiliar with the person behind the music that is more than intentional; the young artist strives to keep himself anonymous.

The musician’s debut Album, 7VEN released September 11th. 7VEN is the hype album you have been craving in an otherwise quiet and isolated year. The album is 18 minutes of madness and countless genres blending into a seven-track hit. The album includes 3 features including Australian rapper, The Kid LAROI.

Last week Juiced! had the privilege of participating in a press conference with him and asked him the following questions:

What direction do you want to take your music in the future? Are you going to continue being fluid with genres or do you want to try a specific subgenre?

I want to try something like Tame Impala. That genre would be really cool! I just want to come away from the mainstream scene right now. I want to focus on something and make whatever I find enjoyable

What has it been like collaborating with Joey Trap? How has it been different from previous collaborations with smaller artists like SCXTT PILGRIM and Wherei$mez?

I went up to New York for like a week and most of the time we were just playing video games. That was some of the most fun I have ever had. I love to get to know someone on a friend level before I start working with them. I think creating that type of bond with someone first makes everything much easier and clears out any awkward tension. We recorded everything* in like a day, maybe, and just spent the rest of it goofing off and playing Smash Bros. Wherei$mez is my boy though, its great getting to work with people I have been friends with for a long time. Both of them (Wheri$mez and SCXTT PILGRIM) are really coming up right now and I hope that we can continue to come into view together.

*The artist is referring to his collaboration album, Trapped in Tokyo, released September of 2019. The album has 7 songs and is 20 minutes long. The most popular song, Psycho currently has over 5 million streams on Spotify.
